There is a multifaceted and magnificent relationship between the sea and human beings. In this relationship, the sea is the “provider”; human is the consumer, actually the “winner”.

It is possible to count some of those we get from the sea even without thinking: “Swimming, diving, fishing, rowing, sailing, transportation etc… Moreover, the sea; It gives food, work, oxygen, and life to human. It is also possible to gain uniquely valuable intangible qualities from the sea. However, at this point, the price is high, but the reward – for those who can endure – is invaluable. I will try to go in details at this point.

Human is a social being. Having a human character is not only an innate acquisition, nor can it be. It is a value that develops over time, as much as a person can add to it, throughout his life. Human, essentially needs to evolve in terms of his abstract (spiritual and mental) qualities. That is, the more those qualities developed, makes a person the more human. So that it guides human to enlighting. Being human means “being enlightened”.

As it says “no pain, no gain”; tough experiences and lessons with striking and burning effects open human’s conscious codes in life. From this point of view, the sea is a perfect environment of such an experience, a place of spiritual development. The suffering at sea contributes to the mental and spiritual development. The marine environment naturally requires a difficult, tough, even a “life and death” struggle. Being at sea requires adaptation, patience and tolerance. All those, can lead mariners to discover their essence and to “become more human”.

As a result, amateur or professional, those whose life path pass through the sea may pay a heavy price at sea, but on the other side of the coin, they can gain invaluable qualities in the process of reaching the port of “enlightenment”. This magnificent relationship between human and the sea is unique; It makes sailors risky but privileged.
